Losing Patience With Misinformed Citizens on Gay Marriage

I routinely get emails from people who support indefensible views and who are merely regurgitating what they have heard in the media, without doing much research on their own. This is one such comment, and admittedly my impatient response, which I decided to expand upon and publish here. Continue reading Losing Patience With Misinformed Citizens on Gay Marriage

Utah’s Governor Endorses Gender-Based Chaos, Trans-gender Bathrooms and Schools

Perhaps that title sounds like a stretch, but it’s not. I can’t imagine that the Governor knows what he has just endorsed when he says he supports Senator Steve Urquhart’s proposed non-discrimination bill. This is not the first time the governor has supported an idea that he either does not understand or he is really not who he said he was when he was first running for office. Common Core comes to mind. His indecision on Medicaid expansion is another. Continue reading Utah’s Governor Endorses Gender-Based Chaos, Trans-gender Bathrooms and Schools

First Freedoms Forum – Why the Utah Anti-Discrimination Bill Is A Bad Idea

I encourage you to read this excellent explanation of a bill that may sound good, but is not.  If you are confused by the rhetoric please set aside time to review the information contained here, and then attend the “First Freedoms Forum” Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Show Barn, Thanksgiving Point, 7 pm.  Tickets are available here.

An Open Letter from Rose Marie Murray, United Families Utah

“Dear Family, Friends and Neighbors,

You may have heard that Utah Senator Steve Urquhart is sponsoring a Non-discrimination bill (Senate Bill 100) in the Utah Legislative session that begins on January 26. He claims that his bill, which would prohibit discrimination in housing and employment based on “gender identity” or “gender expression,” has nothing to do with the same-sex marriage issue.

Although Urquhart’s “non-discrimination” bill sounds like a good idea, it’s not. Why? Because “non-discrimination” laws and same-sex marriage are actually inseparably connected issues. Consider the following:

1. Both non-discrimination laws and same-sex marriage favor “sexual” rights over First Freedom Rights of Religion, Conscience, Speech and the Right to make a Living. Both create legal definitions for, and special protections to, “gender identity” and “gender expression.” As we are seeing in other states, some members of the gay community have used this legal standing to prosecute people who otherwise would have been protected by the United States Constitution First Amendment of Freedom of Religion and Speech. For examples of legal cases of “sexual” rights trumping First Freedom Rights, click here.

Where non-discrimination laws are in place and same-sex marriage is legal, First Freedoms of Religion, Speech, Conscience and Right to make a Living are losing on every front. Utah should not adopt a state-wide non-discrimination law.

2. Passing the non-discrimination law could undermine Utah’s upcoming appeal to the Supreme Court to defend Amendment 3 (to preserve the legal definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman). In every state where same-sex marriage is now legal, the first step was the adoption of a state-wide non-discrimination law. Non-discrimination laws set the legal precedence for recognition of “sexual” rights as legitimate in the eyes of the law. Non-discrimination laws set a firm foundation for legalizing same-sex marriage. The Supreme Court will look favorably toward same-sex marriage in Utah if we have a state-wide non-discrimination law already in place.

Adopting a state-wide “non-discrimination” law could pave the way for the demise of the protection of marriage as only being between a man and a woman in Utah.

3. Even if you believe that non-discrimination law has nothing to do with same-sex marriage, then the plain fact of the matter is that, this legislation is not needed. There are a few anecdotal claims of discrimination in housing or employment based on gender identity or gender expression in Utah, but none have been substantiated. What does this mean? Utahns already treat people fairly in housing and employment. A state-wide non-discrimination law would not be helpful because there is no record of discrimination against gays in Utah.

Although Sen. Urquharts’ “non-discrimination” bill (SB 100) sounds like a good idea, it’s not and it should be opposed.

Utah’s Sovereignty and Marriage Law:  The Left Resorts – Again – to Lies and Distortions

Remember, don’t believe everything you read.  It is an Alinksy tactic in Rules for Radicals to mock and ridicule and to deliberately lie and label and use guilt by association.

We are astonished at the distortions and lies surrounding the event with Sheriff Mack held in Utah on January 4, 2014.  The Left has been trying to discredit this Sheriff for years, when in fact he is giving a logical and inspiring presentation that just makes sense.  He is now leading Sheriffs all across the country successfully.

And the truth is, that’s what they’re so afraid of: the truth.
