Who’s Behind the Destruction of the BSA and Religious Liberty? On Feb 4, 2013 12 Comments
Monday, February 4th, homosexuals are planning a protest at the BSA headquarters in Irving, Texas where board members will be meeting. On February 6, 2013, a decision will be made whether or not to lift the ban on homosexual scout leaders.
But did you know who’s putting the pressure on?
- Sign the petition and contact the two CEOs below.
- Take the poll.
- Pass this message and link on to your family and friends.
About the Petition
Two BSA board members – incoming BSA President Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T and Jim Turley, CEO of Ernst & Young disagree with the BSA’s policy to provide a safe environment for young boys.
So please take a moment to contact these two corporations (see below) and sign a NEW petition to the top right.
THIS is NOT the same petition you received last week!
We need your urgent help today and tomorrow (February 4-5). We are asking them to stand up for the BSA or to step down. There are MORE CEO’s involved as well. And we are also suggesting a positive strategic sponsorship alternative.
But you will be shocked at what we’ve learned about who is really behind this campaign, and its goals to attack and destroy the BSA, as well as the religious organizations that provide the BSA’s membership.
After you have signed the petition,

Eagle Scout with Two Moms Organizes Massive Campaign to Destroy the BSA and Religious Liberty
Once again, the usual opponents of religious liberty are lined up against the BSA: the ACLU, the Unitarian Church, as well as other atheist and humanist movements.
But the most energetic campaign of them all comes from Scouts for Equality founder Zach Wahls and his intention to destroy the BSA.
Through www.Change.org Wahls has created petitions in many localities and has gathered around 1.4 million signatures. He claims over 3,600 Eagle Scouts in his ranks, including GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Wahls’ goal is not to form a separate scouting organization that attracts those who agree with him. His goal is to persecute those with deeply-held religious beliefs and to destroy the private, non-profit organization they support.
He is doing it by attacking the organization’s First Amendment protection and normalizing homosexual activity within that traditionally Judeo-Christian organization.
This very strategy has been used for decades in social justice campaigns – popularized by Saul Alinksy in Rules for Radicals. You can purchase it on the right at “Cherilyn’s Favorite Books.” This handbook is being used to destroy religion itself. Alinksy’s book dedication makes his intent perfectly clear:
Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history… the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.
A Win-Win for the ACLU, Gay Rights, Atheists and Agnostics
From Wahl’s effective use of Alinsky’s approach, we can expect the following outcomes:
- Sponsoring religions will withdraw and the BSA will fold. Here are the top sponsors. (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is by far the largest religious member sponsor with 38,000 units comprising 34% of the BSA. More than $320,000 went to Boy Scout troops and councils connected to the Mormon Church.) Here are Wahl’s top religious targets:Von G. Keetch, representing the LDS Church and other religious sponsoring organizations, declared their stance in 2000: “If the appointment of scout leaders cannot be limited to those who live and affirm the sexual standards of BSA and its religious sponsors, the Scouting Movement as now constituted will cease to exist.”
PDF). “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — the largest single sponsor of Scouting units in the United States — would withdraw from Scouting if it were compelled to accept openly homosexual Scout leaders.”
Or…the other outcome might be:
- Religious sponsors will support the incremental changes on the slippery slope, and the BSA will become part of the normalization process as the U.S. becomes Europe. It will struggle to maintain membership, and its religious tenets will fall.
Either outcome is a win for atheists, agnostics and gay rights activists working together to destroy traditional Judeo-Christian religion and its support of the natural family.
Consider what has happened in Europe: The Boy Scouts International, separate from the BSA, already has a non-discrimination policy in many European countries. The result? In countries where gay marriage is the law and non-discrimination laws in place, traditional religion and marriage is on the decline or, in some cases, almost non-existent.
Corporations Flex Muscles in Support of Gay Rights
Some of BSA’s sponsors who have donated large sums are now flexing their muscles to destroy the BSA;s moral standard.
As I’ve said, “Follow the money and if there’s corruption, that’s where you’ll find it.” Well, we have found it.
Corporations That Have Abandoned the BSA
Here’s a list of corporations that have withdrawn their sponsorships because of the BSA’s moral policy:
- Intel ($700,000 in 2010) – withdrawn September 2012
- UPS ($167,000 in 2010) – withdrawn November 2012
- Merck & Co. ($30,000 in 2011) withdrawn December 2012
- Chase Manhattan Bank
- Levi Strauss
- Fleet Bank
- Pew Charitable Trusts ($100,000)
- Since 1991, 50 of the 1,300 local United Ways, including those in Cleveland, Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle have withdrawn support.
Cities that have withdrawn:
- San Diego
- Buffalo Grove
- Santa Barbara
States that have withdrawn (charitable donations – money or preferential land access):
Eagle Scout filmmaker Steven Spielberg (a long-time supporter of Scouting and co-creator of Cinematography Merit Badge) withdrew early in 2001 saying, “it has deeply saddened me to see the Boy Scouts of America actively and publicly participating in discrimination.”
Falling Like Dominoes
The top sponsor, Intel, contributed $700,000 to the BSA knowing of its ban and then strategically let the BSA know it would boycott the organization if it did not alter its policy. This is outrageous.
A month later, pharmaceutical giant Merck followed suit, and UPS announced in November it would no longer give to BSA because of its gay ban.
U.S. Bank, Verizon and Wells Fargo each gave at least $10,000 to the BSA. But not anymore.
Finding Corporations to Support the BSA
It is time to identify moral corporations that will step up to the plate and replace these amoral corporate sponsors that have abandoned BSA principles. Many corporations are owned by strong Judeo-Christian families.
We know that 110 of them have filed for injunctions against the Federal government on religious liberty grounds against the Affordable Care Act. Dan Cathy CEO of Chick Fil-A and David Green CEO of Hobby Lobby come to mind.
We urge the BSA Board to actively recruit these corporations for future support.
If any doubt remains, may I suggest that we are in a war of words and ideas that will have dire consequences for the future of liberty, our families, our faith and our children. This is a war from which we cannot retreat, and it is a war we cannot lose.
